Freestyle Review - The Crafter's Best Friend

I've been a crafter for many years. I do a lot of crafts and frequent all the local craft fairs. I use a glue gun very often. It's one of the most important tools of my trade... The type of craftwork I do is floral arrangements using dried flowers and silk flowers.

I was excited to try out your ColdHeat FreeStyle glue gun on a wide range of gluing tasks. It is definitely a handy glue gun and is ideal for small jobs that don't require a lot of glue. It's wonderful to not have a dangling cord getting in the way!

In preparation for an upcoming craft show, I worked on some floral arrangements where I could test your glue gun. What I found was that, for the majority of my particular applications, I need a glue gun that gives me a lot of glue, especially when I glue dry foam into a container.

I do love the portability and light weight of the FreeStyle but found that I had to work very fast with these containers because the glue was drying very quickly. This caused me to use more glue that what I'm accustomed to, to get them all done.

I do have a larger corded glue gun that takes larger glue sticks and when I squeeze it, a lot of glue comes out (sometimes a bit too much) but in the above application, the glue sticks to the foam and containers better. With the FreeStyle, it was a matter of the glue quantity and how quickly I could dispense it... I had to press and press to get enough glue to make it stick. I ended up using a lot of mini-glue sticks for this particular task, and around the hour mark, the battery was obviously starting to run down a bit, which slowed my work down. At this point, a second charged up battery would have been ideal...

Given the number of craft shows I do per year, I'm perhaps a bit of a heavier user of glue for my particular craft projects. I would have to say that your FreeStyle glue gun is excellent for finer delicate jobs, and one I'll gladly use instead of my bigger brute that isn't very convenient for intricate work. But I make several arrangements in a day so I still need a heavier duty glue gun that will stay hot the entire time I'm using it and that dispenses more when I need it fast...

If I could humbly make a suggestion --- Perhaps your company could make a second larger version of your glue gun using thicker glue sticks. I understand the trade off with such a design may be more weight, or require a bigger battery, but for a craftsperson like me working on tasks that require dispensing more glue, it would be great... I'd probably put my old brute to rest and yours would be "this crafter's best friend".

All in all, for the intended simpler craft or hobby applications, the FreeStyle is a better product than any other mini-glue guns I've seen or had opportunity to use. It definitely has its place. It's a welcome addition to the tools of my trade!
